La dona treballadora al metro de Barcelona (The working woman in the Barcelona metro)
Historical perspective on the evolution towards gender equality in TMB (1924-2024).
Women, as workers, have been present since the beginning of the Barcelona metro service in 1924.
This publication presents a historical research on how, throughout the hundred years of this mode of transportation, the group of female workers has achieved—sometimes driven by circumstances, other times hindered by legal constraints—the conquest of gender equality in this work context. Originally, it was a very male-dominated environment that only offered women very limited roles. Everything has changed: the service, the type of work, social and labor legislation... and today we find ourselves very close to full gender equality.
May this publication serve as a tribute to the group of women in the Barcelona subway, who have served and continue to serve the public transport of the city.
