Sustainable and safe mogility chock plan
Funding of initiatives within the framework of component 1, stemming from the National Transport Conference agreement of 5 November 2021, which establishes the criteria for the territorial distribution of budget appropriations for the 2021 and 2022 financial years, as well as the distribution corresponding to the 2021 financial year, for the funding of investment initiatives within the framework of component 1 of the plan.
These measures will directly contribute to promoting the use of public transport in low-emission zones in Barcelona and its metropolitan area, improving the metro service and providing it with greater capacity to better absorb the expected increase in demand. They will contribute to the decarbonisation of mobility, as they promote a collective public transport system that uses green electricity as an alternative to the use of private vehicles.
Acquisition and commissioning of trains to improve the TMB metro service to promote the LEZ
Acquisition and commissioning of four quintuple trains to improve the L3 service, in order to improve the capacity and appeal of public transport, to promote low-emission zones in Barcelona and its metropolitan area.
The trains incorporate the latest technologies available on the market for the digitalisation of processes, both for operation and maintenance and for user information, for example, real-time train monitoring, real-time sensorisation of train systems (condition-based maintenance), a real-time digital and multimedia passenger information system, access to the driver's cab by means of digital ID, etc.
Renovation of the Barcelona metro network track superstructure. L5.
The aim here is to renew the track on L5 in the Gavarra, Verdaguer-Sagrada Família and Sagrera-Horta sections.

Renovation of the Barcelona metro network track superstructure (L3-L4-L5)
The objectives are:
- Renovation of the track on L3 in the Maria Cristina-Sants section (approximately 4,000 m).
- Renovation of the track on L4 in the sections between Barceloneta and Verdaguer (approximately 3,100 m).
- Renovation of the track on L5 in the Cornellà-Gavarra (approximately 200 m), Verdaguer-Sagrada Familia (approximately 500 m) and Sagrera-Horta (approximately 3,140 m) sections.
Depending on the needs on each section, the different track renovations include:
- Renovating the superstructure of sections with concrete sleepers, new fasteners and the renovation of the track.
- Renovation of track drainage within these sections.
- Renewal/installation of exhaust systems.
- The creation of new pump shafts.
